Talklets: Enabling speech from a websiteThere is an interesting speech enabling development by Textic Ltd, the same company who produce the toolbar that allows the view of a website to be altered as demonstrated at the BDA website. Talklets can either be used as an extension to a website, or a subscription for an individual. Talklets provides a service where a suitably enabled website will be "spoken" to the reader on their machine. No special software needs to be installed on the client machine, as long as a the machine can play a common sound file type called an MP3 then you are ready to go. Talklets for websites The standard deployment of Talklets uses a simple toolbar at the bottom of the web page. How much does it cost? Talklets for Individuals Talklets for individuals is offered as a subscription service allowing you to activate an easy-to-use speech control toolbar at the bottom of your web browser screen. A FREE version is available that will work on a limited range of 'Favourites' websites, allowing you to test Talklets without the need even to register.
