Children's Legal Centre

The Children's Legal Centre is a unique, independent national charity concerned with law and policy affecting children and young people. The Children's Legal Centre has many years of experience in providing legal advice and representation to children, their carers and professionals throughout the UK.

It opened in 1981, as the major UK project for the International Year of the Child, and is staffed by lawyers and professionals with experience in child law. The Centre is funded by grants from Central Government and by charitable trusts.

National Education Law Advice Line

The Centre operates a national advice line on behalf of the Legal Services Commission, under the CLS Direct Scheme. The service operates Mon-Fri 9.30 am - 5.00 pm.

Callers with complex education law matters, who satisfy the eligibility criteria, are entitled to receive ongoing legal advice and assistance.

The Education Law and Advocacy Unit:

The Education Law and Advocacy Unit provides parents with comprehensive legal advice for those in conflict with schools and/or LEAs. Our team of legal experts are able to offer initial free advice as well as online information through our Frequently Asked Questions on all areas including:

* Special Educational Needs,
* Exclusions,
* Admissions,
* School attendance,
* Bullying and school phobia,
* Alternative education,
* Curriculum,
* School transport,
* School records,
* Education for asylum seeking children,
* Human rights claims,
* Judicial reviews,
* Complaints to the Secretary of State and the Local Government Ombudsman.
