The Membership is drawn from
a range of West Cumbrian people who are either themselves dyslexic
or have family members who are affected. There are also representatives
of organsisations with whom the WCDA works closely.
From the membership, a management
committee is elected annually.
Chairperson: Doris
Pearce is an adult dyslexic whose was diagnosed at the
age of 53. She initially completed an access course at West Cumbria
College (now Lakes College) and then went on to complete a Diploma
in Youth & Community Work at St Martins College Carlisle. She
works at Connexions Cumbria as a Personal Advisor.
Secretary: Beth
Dell is the mother of two dyslexic sons. Beth is the longest
serving member of our committee. She has completed the befriending
training which enables her to assist parents on the best way to
get help for a dyslexic child in school.
Treasurer: Anne
Mackenzie has a dyslexic son who was at Sheffield Hallam
University where he had support for his dyslexia. Anne is a retired
teacher, and is also trained as a befriender.
Del Jones is
a teacher trained to work with dyslexic and is the SENCO in the school
she works in. Del also has a dyslexic daughter. She has tutored on
the Cumbria Advanced Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties
CACSLD teachers course.
Pam Baines a
dyslexic adult who has a dyslexic son. He is undergoing the DDAT
programme and is improving daily.
Carol Dixon is
a retired teacher, who has a dyslexic daughter currently studying
at Lancaster University. Carol has completed the Cumbria Advanced
Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (CACSLD).
Ann Nutter works
at Lakes College where she is Principle Manager for SEN.
Chris and Joan Breen are
parents of a dyslexic son and have for many years worked at getting
a better deal for both dyslexic children and adults.
